Hey you,

I’m not sure where to begin, but anywhere’s a start, so here goes…

Your year was filled with many firsts and a lot of joy, and tears and big changes in your life, some for the better, mostly for the better in fact.
You have come a long way from where you were a year ago, and you’re constantly growing as an individual. So many lessons learnt and so many new experiences shared and made.

I want you to know that just because you spent a lot of time making a mistake, you shouldn’t cling to it. Don’t blame yourself for someone else’s choices, don’t go back and wonder why they made that choice. People change, and so will you. Don’t ponder in the past.  But now that it’s over, you know what you want in life, don’t you? And you know exactly what you don’t want too. So perhaps, whatever happens, is for the best. You know now not to accept things as they are, and you know now that you deserve better, and you will get that someday. And till that day, I want you to keep working on yourself, love yourself enough, take care of yourself and go for what you want, work hard for it. You have so many beautiful and happy days just waiting to happen. Life is exciting, don’t forget that, you never know what will happen.

Somewhere in my heart, I hope you forgive the people who have hurt you for the things they did. I know it’s a process, and it hurts me to write this now too because I know your wounds are still raw, and you’ll take time to heal, and that’s completely okay. Take your time, but heal. And forgive them, forgive them and forget them for your peace of mind. Be the bigger person, the person you aspire to be. And make sure you realize you deserve better.

Be that person you’ve always aspired to be. Be kind. Travel as much as you can. Write. Listen to people’s stories (I know you love listening to them). Go out, hang out with friends, spend time alone, and mostly, be grateful. Work on yourself. You’re getting there, love.

I love that you focus on being grateful in life, and in some small way it seems to make a difference to some people in your life. That matters, honey, a lot. A little difference, that’s all you need. Remember that 11-year-old girl? The girl who wanted to change the world, that’s still there inside you, I know it. So go ahead and make that difference- whether it’s through your writing or by doing something. You’re already doing so much, love..all the people you touch with the way you write, that’s truly amazing and because no one else is going to tell you this, I will- I am proud of you, so proud…

I know family can be hard on you, but they love you and support you ultimately. I know friends may not always be there, but you know now who are the ones who try their best to be there for you. You have a job, a place to live , a vehicle and a pet! You travel whenever you want to, and you have the freedom to do as you choose. Isn’t that amazing? You’re 23, and you already have so much. Be grateful. Be grateful for the family who loves you, for the friends who supported you through bad times and for the beautiful life you have. And I’m sure soon, you’ll get everything you truly want.

Remember to stay positive. Remember to take care of yourself, and remember to be there for yourself when no one else is. Love yourself enough.

Stay true to yourself. I love you.
